ZomBee Watch Community Science Program

Launching Fall 2024

San Francisco State University Partnership

In partnership with San Francisco State University, we are proud to offer The ZomBee Watch Program for Schools to participate in collecting real-world scientific research!

Digital Took Kit

This program features a Digital Tool Kit that aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and includes asynchronous STEM lessons and supplementary materials. These resources guide students through the scientific method to collect and input data on the official ZomBee Watch Project Website.

Throughout the project, students learn about bee behavior and biology, pollination, bee population collapse, the life cycle of the zombie fly (Apocephalus borealis), and ZomBee behavior. They design and engineer light traps in class to catch parasitized bees, set their traps out, examine their catches, and post their findings on the official ZomBee Watch website database. These results contribute to The ZomBee Watch Infection Map, which displays where ZomBees have been discovered worldwide.
