Ooey Gooey, Sticky and Sweet!
Celebrating National Honey Month with Planet Bee
Many of us recognize the amber ambrosia that our always-busy honey bee friends are responsible for creating, and the impact it makes in households across the country. This month, though, we take our appreciation to the next level as we join in celebrating National Honey Month. Founded by The National Honey Board, in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1989, it’s a relatively young celebratory month that looks to spread awareness about the importance of honey bees, and the beekeeping industry, in the United States!
Today, awareness about our honey bees and the hard work they do for farmers and their crops is of the utmost importance. Historically, we’ve relied on the hardworking and humble honey bee to pollinate our high-yield crops across the nation. Some beekeepers even have national tours, driving their bees to farms from east coast to west! However, for reasons such as habitat loss, climate change, and the loss of many native flower populations, we regularly worry about the wellbeing of our bees!
Whether you take the time this month to enjoy the honey bees’ deliciously sweet creation, or begin to prepare your gardens for the fall and winter chill and plan next year's pollinator garden, make September a month of appreciation for all bees, and the hard work they do to support our ecosystems and theirs! If you would like more information about what you can do to help support our bee buddies, take a look at our programs or reach out to us at info@planetbee.org!
