National Intern Day

We would like to dedicate this year’s National Intern Day to the future leaders that dedicate their time to Planet Bee and environmental stewardship. After a long year of working remotely, we are very thankful to have an enthusiastic team that is devoted to teaching the future generations about bees, and we are grateful that some are able to work in-person again! Read below to meet our current team members and their relationship to bees and the environment.

Claire

Claire joined the Planet Bee team in May 2020 as an intern and has since become Project Coordinator. Claire helps with setting up and maintaining all the technology it takes to run our programming. This involves a lot of backend programs that help us reach as many people as possible.

Claire enjoys working at Planet Bee because of the wonderful team and constantly growing and changing environment.

Claire became interested in bees and the environment because her mom is a backyard beekeeper. The more she learned about bees, the more she learned how critical they are. They are a food issue so they are a people issue!

Claire’s favorite food pollinated by bees is cherries and her favorite type of bee is the leafcutter bee.

Clara

Clara joined the Planet Bee team in August of 2020 as an intern and has recently become an Associate Content Creator. During her time with Planet Bee, Clara has worked on managing and creating content to enhance our social media presence and increase followers, writing blogs about the latest bee research, and writing grant proposals with the grant writing team.

Clara enjoys working at Planet Bee because it has given her the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and collaborate with friendly and passionate people!

Clara became interested in protecting the environment when she took environmental science in high school and was inspired to continue her studies and major in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Barbara.

Her favorite food pollinated by bees is avocados and her favorite type of bee is the bumblebee.

Paige

Paige joined the Planet Bee team in January this year as an intern and has since then become a fellow. Throughout her time with us, Paige worked on organizing and developing the new Planet Bee distance learning pages on our website and handled administrative work. In addition to these tasks, she now edits the website and is a part of the grant writing team.

Paige enjoys being part of the friendly, inclusive team at Planet Bee. She looks forward to working with everyone each day with topics she has a passion for!

Paige has always had an interest for science, being involved in STEM clubs as early as the 5th grade. It was not until high school when she started analyzing current events and environmental concerns, which inspired her to go into the environmental field and major in Environmental Sciences at the University of Vermont.

Her favorite food that is pollinated by bees is chocolate— she has a giant sweet tooth! Her favorite type of bee is the bumblebee.

Sydney

Sydney joined the Planet Bee team this summer and has contributed much to our programs! So far, Sydney has made an online, interactive map of all the schools Planet Bee has worked with through our environmental education programs. She has also analyzed the effectiveness of these lessons and how they can be improved based on surveys filled out by teachers who have participated in environmental education programs.

Sydney loves working at Planet Bee because it gives her an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. Since the organization is small, Sydney likes feeling very involved in taking on responsibilities that are actually important to Planet Bee.

Sydney first became interested in the environment and bees in high school environmental science and grew her interest in college through becoming an environmental studies major at UCLA and taking classes in the field, joining environmental clubs, and participating in research related to sustainability.

Her favorite food pollinated by bees are blueberries and her favorite type of bee is the bumblebee.

Cathy

Cathy joined the Planet Bee team this summer and is working in-person at the office in San Francisco. So far, she has worked on a little bit of everything from researching for blog posts to helping write social media posts.

Cathy loves working at Planet Bee because she enjoys learning new things about bees and their importance in the world. She also loves working with such a passionate group of people who are all working hard for our community.

Cathy first became interested in the environment as a kid and would often go camping and hiking with her family. She always knew she wanted to help protect the environment, so she naturally pursued a degree in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Barbara.

Her favorite food pollinated by bees is tomatoes and her favorite type of bee is the Globe Mallow Bee that naps on flowers.

Raed

Raed joined the Planet Bee team in the spring as a high school social media and research intern. Since joining the team, he has worked with our Instagram analytics, social media content development, and edited the website by adding new schools to the list.

While at Planet Bee, he has enjoyed getting more knowledge about social media engagement and handling. Raed noticed how much of an impact bees have on the environment and how they could help us construct a better living environment for us, which inspired him to go into the environmental field!

His favorite food pollinated by bees is avocados and his favorite type of bee is the bumblebee.
